MEET THE TEAM
PRESIDENT
My name is Lewis Cheatwood. I’m a retired Brandywine School District administrator and retired from Education after serving 37 years (in several Districts) as a teacher, coach, Student Advisor, Coordinating teacher, Assistant to the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Principal.
Education was the perfect vehicle for fulfilling my passion to be in service. I've always wanted to help others, especially anyone who was less fortunate than I was.
By focusing on my need to excel academically, I was able to graduate from William Penn High School in 1973. After graduating from high school, I attended the University of Delaware and earned a degree in Elementary/Special Education. I then continued my education at Delaware
State University and earned a Master’s degree in Special Education and School Leadership. I loved my career as an educator and never looked at what I did as a job.
I have three children and eight grandchildren who play a very important part of who I am and why I continue to be engaged in my community. I also enjoy working out and physically taking
care of myself as well as others, which is a direct result of my willingness and perseverance in becoming a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in 1977.
I am a founding member of the Hawks Inc. which was founded in the sixties under the guidance of the late William “Hick” Anderson. I am proud to be recognized as one of the founding fathers of this great organization. It’s an honor and a pleasure to have known most of my fellow club
members for over 50 years. The bond we have created can never be broken or erased.
Currently, I am the Executive Director of the Hawks Inc. I take my responsibility of serving my brothers and the city of Wilmington very serious. I truly believe in our mission, “To volunteer service, support and mentoring to help empower citizens of Northeast Wilmington by providing education and coaching”. This idea drives and motivates me to remain focused on our mission and vision.
